How It All Began - To Today
My intended pursuit to further my education was thwarted, through no fault of my own.
I had put my weight training workouts on hold for a few months in addition to taking some vacation and sick time prior to this position to help care for my mother, who was dying of cancer. When my mother passed and I resume my workouts, I began to experience unusual discomfort at the back of the middle of my thigh.
Visits to a local chiropractor seemed to help for a short period of time but lifting a small child at my then position as a physical therapy assistant worsened the problem. Long story short, after tests and medical imaging, it was determined that I had a herniated disc just about at the level of my sacrum. I'm not sure what I did to make it even worse, but it got so bad that to sit felt like my left hip was being crushed from the inside. I was very fortunate to find a specialist who surgically remedied the problem, or so I thought.
Two more surgeries over the next six years finally revealed an ovarian cyst the size of a small grapefruit that had altered my biomechanics over the many years I had been working out. My body, however was stuck in the twisted state created by the cyst.
After much searching and many alternative therapy, I was blessed to find a PT in Connecticut who was able to treat my unusual, structural malalignment. However, due to much anxiety in the process I did not follow their every instruction, and made myself worse.
So, I currently struggle with much discomfort, attempting to alleviate the problem.
I did return to my photography in late 2006/2007 and have continued (when possible) to use the gift with which I was granted.
