Early in the new year, my amaryllises will bloom. It is always exciting to see a bud peek from the well rested bulb and begin to shoot up. The surprise is never knowing how many blooms the bulb with produce in any given year, although, it appears that it generates the same number of flowers as when it originally bloomed.

As the stalk from the bulb lengthens, my anticipation grows. When it has finished its growth, the bud begins to open, slowly hinting at the number of flowers that can be expected to open.

As glorious as they are, they don't last as long as I would like, but in their graceful decline, there is still beauty to capture.
